Eddie Schwartz is best known for writing such classic hit songs as “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” recorded by Pat Benatar, “Don’t Shed A Tear” by Paul Carrack, and “The Doctor” by the Doobie Brothers, as well as some two hundred songs recorded and performed by artists such as Joe Cocker, Carly Simon, Robert Palmer, America, Jeffrey Osborne, Donna Summer, Rita Coolidge, Martina McBride, Rascal Flatts, Meatloaf, Lawrence Gowan, Honeymoon Suite, Amy Sky, Olivia Newton John, the Chipmunks and Mountain – among others. His songs have also been featured in countless videogames, dozens of movies and television shows, and on Broadway and in movies such as “Rock of Ages”, and “Shrek”.
As a record producer, he has enjoyed success with numerous projects, including the Doobie Brothers’ “Cycles” album, Paul Carrack’s “Groove Approved”, Rita Coolidge’s “Fire Me Back”, as well as his own recordings as an artist, including “Special Girl” and “All Our Tomorrows”. His worldwide physical sales before the digital era were well in excess of 65 million units.
Eddie grew up in both Toronto and New York city, and experienced first hand the extraordinary music scene in Toronto’s Yorkville, and New York’s Greenwich Village in the 1960’s. By the late 1960’s he was writing songs and performing in bands such as The London Fog, the Mushroom castle, Icarus and the duo, LA and Eddie. By the mid 1970’s other artists were recording his songs. “Hit Me With Your Best Shot”, recorded and released by Pat Benatar in 1980 established him as a music creator internationally, and demand for his songs has now spanned decades.
In 1997 Eddie and his family moved from Toronto to Nashville TN.
Eddie has won numerous music industry awards including multiple JUNO, BMI, and SOCAN awards, and SOCAN’s prestigious Cultural Achievement award.
