As Toronto post-hardcore veterans
SILVERSTEIN ready themselves to co-headline
the tenth anniversary of The Take Action Tour (kicking
off April 22nd in Boston), anticipation behind the band’s
fifth studio album, RESCUE, continues
to build. Backed by new label Hopeless Records,
Rescue hits streets on April 26th,
but excited fans can get a taste of the new album by streaming
“Intervention” exclusively at RevolverMag.com:

Following the co-headlining run with Bayside on
the Take Action Tour, with support from Polar
Bear Club, The Swellers and Texas In July,
Silverstein head to Europe for world renowned festivals such
as Rock Im Park/Rock Am Ring Festivals in
Germany, Greenfield Festival in Switzerland,
Nova Rock Festival in Austria, and
Download Festival in the UK (see
all tour dates below). Pre-orders of Rescue are
available at www.silversteinmusic.com/preorder.html
and various limited edition items such as t-shirts and vinyl.
Written with a conscious effort
to retain the sound that helped Silverstein become scene staples
(and sell over one million records), Rescue also finds
the quintet writing songs that would become even more explosive
in the live setting. Playing many of these new songs for the
first time in front fans on this upcoming tour and festival
dates, Silverstein vocalist Shane Told says,
“We wrote a lot of these songs strictly by feel, not worrying
about proper song structure, but over the years we've improved
immensely in terms of songwriting and playing. We have so much
live experience now, and we know what songs will come across
better live, and that's reflected in our song writing too.”

From the opening riffs of album
opener “Medication” to album closer
and ballad “In Memory Of…”
(written about the death of Told’s cousin), Rescue
is filled with driving melodies, intricate guitar work,
pounding drums and Told’s ability to shift from a croon
to a roar at the drop of a dime that fans have come to expect
from Silverstein, yet the songs sound refreshingly creative
and new. “With Rescue we took more chances than
we ever have, but I think it really paid off, and I think it
made this record really stand out,” he admits. “I
think these songs translate better live than anything we've
done before.”
Backed by new label Hopeless Records,
Silverstein teamed up with a new producer, Jordan Valeriote,
to record demos. Having worked with legendary producer Cameron
Webb for a number of years (“If anyone is the
6th member of our band it is Cameron,” Told admits) Silverstein
demoed a number of songs with Valeriote and “were blown
away by the sounds he was getting and his work ethic.”
When it came time to track the album, Silverstein sent the music
to Webb, and after being impressed with the recordings himself,
Webb supported the band’s decision to work with Valeriote,
while he mixed Rescue.
With the release of Rescue,
it was an easy decision to have Silverstein co-headline this
year’s Take Action Tour, organized by Hopeless’
501c3 non-profit organization Sub City. “We've
always been a band that ultimately presents a positive message,”
comments Told. “Whether we are trying to improve ourselves,
or helping other people whether it be small or big, we are essentially
rescuing ourselves or others from a place of negativity, to
a more positive place. This album is all about self-improvement,
self-realization, and doing your part to help yourself and those
around you.”
Silverstein is
Shane Told (Vocals / Guitar), Neil
Boshart (Guitar), Josh Bradford (Guitar),
Billy Hamilton (Bass), and Paul
Koehler (Drums). Their fifth album RESCUE
will be released by Hopeless Records on April
26, 2011.
