When Chris Corner was just a mere 15 years old in the 90s, he started the London-based group Sneaker Pimps. Even though he wrote all the songs on their ground-breaking debut album Becoming X, he opted to release the album with a female vocalist, Kelli Dayton. The resulting landslide of media attention generated a commercial success - the album sold over 1.5 million in the US alone.

Deciding it was time to return to the origins of Sneaker Pimps, Chris took over vocals and released Splinter, the critically-hailed follow-up. Presenting the unique creative direction which has been a trademark of Chris Corner and Sneaker Pimps, the band went on to develop the Home-Taping sessions at London's Contemporary Art Museum, followed by launch of their own label Splinter Recordings who is responsible for discovering acts such as The Servant and Robots In Disguise. While the new Sneaker Pimp album is gestating, Chris has been focusing his energy and reaching his audience through his solo project, IAMX.

Sexual, synthetic, dark and melodic, Chris Corner's IAMX is like an 80s electro glam soundtrack to Svankmajer film - call it a cross between Detroit or Berlin escapades, Prince or Roxy Music's pop, or the electronic universe of Cabaret Voltaire. IAMX erotic vocals accompanied with frantic guitar noise breathes life into the songs.

Whether it's Sneaker Pimps or IAMX, Chris' live performances have always been the highlight of any events, and 2005 was no exception with live shows that took him from US, across the Europe and all the way to Russia.

2006 saw Chris back on tour to promote the original version of The Alternative that was only released in Europe, as well as the soundtrack to the French movie Les Chevaliers Du Ciel directed by Gerard Pires.

2007 opened yet another door for IAMX. With sold-out tours throughout the US and UK, IAMX-mania in the Western World was reaching a feverish pitch with fans and industry alike clamboring over each other to get a piece of him.

2009 reveals a whole new entrance for IAMX. Once hiding behind swaths of synthetic sounds and harsh dance beats, Chris Corner is ready to expose the soft underbelly that he’s hidden for so many years. “I always imagined IAMX as a broad project. I feel completely free to experiment in every aspect - with humour, with sincerity, with sex, with anger, with fragility. That’s how the songs are written - as emotional outlets in a basic form. The electronic nature of my work is a love but also a practicality to be able to achieve results quickly, alone. I am a very private person but I felt with a more organic approach I could begin to explore and expose another angle. IAMX does have two sides: the rabid animal and the bleeding heart. I am trying to show a warmer, more concerned side.”

The new album Kingdom of Welcome Addiction is vulnerable and tender, yet still oozes the seductive sexuality that is part of who he is. From the majestic title track to the fragile ebb and flow of “I Am Terrified” to the tender duet “My Secret Friend” with Imogen Heap, to the lilting ballad “Running”, Kingdom of Welcome Addiction ushers IAMX into a whole new realm entirely. CLEAR Magazine summed it up best when they said, “A blitzkrieg of psycho-trash glamour, Berlin's IAMX are, with their outlandish fashion sense, a sort of Scissor Sisters of underground electro. With all the swagger of T. Rex, the drama of Marc Almond and the forebidding atmosphere of a bombed out city, this is sex music for a decidedly dystopian future.” Pretty spot on, innit?
